Foreword

Indigenous people have always been the greatest of survivors despite many obstacles. The obstacle we have now is a fear that Aboriginal people have always been given special treatment and handouts not meted out to other Australians. Socially Aboriginal people are the most disadvantaged people in Australia. One only needs to look at the social indicators and statistics to understand why. Some being that Indigenous Australians die some twenty years before non Indigenous peoples, the high incarceration rates – one third of the prison population when only constituting two percent of the population, and not to forget the increasing deaths in custodies, high infant mortality, low levels of education etc., etc., etc..
