ABSTRACT

The articles in this edition of Social Alternatives examine
the question of whether there is a 'left' Left. Most agree
that while there has been a decline in the influence of
the Left and a resurgence of neo-liberal thought the Left
is not dead. It still has a crucial role to play in keeping issues of equity, social justice and environmental sustainability at the forefront of political discourse. Several articles suggest that the Left needs to adapt to new circumstances, reject authoritarianism and ideological purity and engage with the changed political landscape.
