ABSTRACT

In 2007, nuclear issues have been put firmly back onto the Australian public agenda, strongly pushed by the current federal government. These issues include nuclear power generation, expansion of the uranium export trade, and the establishment of ‘value-added’ nuclear industrial development. Australians in general are expressing a distinct lack of  enthusiasm (Macintosh 2007). For those who were involved in the anti-nuclear campaigns of the 1970-80s (and many have continued to campaign on the above issues to present day) concern arises about why the nuclear energy issue has re-emerged, given the vast public back-lash against it two or more decades ago.
